Tattoo Care Instructions
Day One:
Your new tattoo will be somewhat tender, and will feel like a new sunburn. The care of your tattoo is your responsibility. How you care for it in the first few days determines the way it will look forever.
Days 2 - 14:
Healing tattoos will peel and flake; small bits of colored skin will shed. It may not look as "crisp" as the first few days and may appear "hazy". This is completely normal, and will clear up in 2- 3 weeks. Continue to wash and dry tattoo twice a day, morning, and night, as directed for in day one. Apply lotion 4-6 times / day, being sure to use a small amount only, and work it in.
Important!!!
Antibiotic ointment ( Bacitracin, Neosporin + triple antibiotic ) can be used for the first three days only; or if a sign of infection occurs. Problems can occur with prolonged use; and the sun should be avoided at all costs, as some ointments are photosensitive, and a rash can develop if exposed to natural or artificial sunlight.
Do:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Bandage carefully - wet in shower first if it seems to stick.
- Wash tattoo with warm water and a mild soap, lathering with hand.
- Rinse tattoo well with warm water, until surface of tattoo feels squeaky clean.
- Pat tattoo dry with a clean, disposable paper towel.
- Apply small amount of lotion or ointment to tattoo and work into skin.
- Blot excess lotion or ointment with a clean paper towel.
- Tattoo should not be greasy - LESS IS MORE!
Do Not:
- Do not rebandage tattoo!
- Do not use washcloth, loofa, or sponge to wash tattoo!
- Do not dry with a towel. Cloth towels can harbor bacteria!
- Do not touch tattoo with dirty hands! Do not let anyone else, either!
- Do not apply excessive lotion or ointment. Tattoo should not look "soggy".
- Do not use products containing aloe vera , alcohol, or cortisone.
- Do not expose tattoo to natural or artificial sunlight for a minimum of 3 weeks.
- Do not soak in tub, pool, or lake . All contain bacteria!
- Do not pick or scratch tattoo! Use a little lotion for itching.
Piercing Care Instructions
Facial Piercings:
Soak the end of a clean cotton swab with Bactine, and remove the crusty matter from both sides of your piercing. Rotate your jewelry 12 times each time you clean your piercing. Do this twice a day until your piercing is fully healed. Avoid contact with facial cleansers, cosmetics, or other facial products to your piercing.
Oral Piercings:
Rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash (such as Listerine) diluted 50% with water every time you eat, drink, or smoke anything. Avoid alcoholic beverages for the first two weeks! For tongue piercing, eat soft meals for the first week, or until no longer uncomfortable, and lots of crushed ice, popsicles, ice cream, and milkshakes (no straw!) to reduce swelling. Avoid deep tongue kissing and performing oral sex for the first two weeks.
Body Piercings:
Apply liquid anti-bacterial soap to the end of a clean cotton swab with some warm water. Remove all crusty matter from both sides of your piercing and rinse with warm water. Lather more antibacterial soap in your hand, and apply to your piercing and the surrounding area, Let sit for 60minutes, meanwhile rotate your jewelry 12 times each time you clean your piercing. Do this twice daily. Avoid contact with body products to your piercing. Avoid touching your piercing with unwashed hands. Avoid lakes, pools, and hot tubs for the first two weeks.
Genital Piercings:
Clean your piercing as you would for a body piercing, but once daily. If you find you are sensitive to anti-bacterial soap, you can use Summer's Eve feminine wash (not the douche). An unscented pantiliner can be worn to avoid staining. Avoid all sexual contact for the first two weeks, and latex condoms should be worn for the remainder of the healing period. Avoid lakes, pools and hot tubs for the first two weeks.
Things to remember:
Alcohol, peroxide, first aid gels, and iodine are never appropriate to clean your piercing with! Always wash your hands before touching your piercing. 50 mg. of zinc, or 500-1000mg. of vitamin C will greatly help the healing process. If you have any questions, concerns, or complications, DO NOT REMOVE YOUR JEWELRY! Don't hesitate to call your piercer with any questions or concerns. It's never inappropriate to be concernered about your health
